11/25/2023 0 Comments Out of your head software sonosOTOH, if you want to use older standalone audio players on your PC/Mac, you'd probably find it as nearly as aggravating as Sonos in the imposed limitations. I like Plex (at least for cataloging my music) so I'm happy with it. So it would do what you're looking for, provided you're happy enough with stuff that can be accessed via Chrome. I would have bought a couple of portable Sonos products if I only had a decently economical way to also connect two existing audio systems as well.Ĭhromecast audio is basically a screen repeater: whatever your phone is broadcasting (after you install the chromecast app) or your PC's/Mac's chrome browser (so you need to use something like Plex to run your music) is playing gets synced to the hockey pucks that feed into your other audio devices through the house. I just couldn't get around that in my head. It's more expensive than their units that come with an amp and speakers. My main complaint has always been the price of the Connect. Lee L":3sak1b4k]Sonos was ahead of the game with synced audio and their speakers seem to be of good quality, both build and sound wise. I've still seen no confirmation if the regular Chromecasts will do this or if it's only the Audio. Now, I have not tried the new ones yet, but I do plan on because the synced play across devices is something I am interested in. They also have no integration with the built in music apps on iOS, so you have to use a third party player. Each app is separate, sometimes the devices will get out of sync with the app controlling them where they are just playing on their own and you have to go through a process to get control back. Sonos was ahead of the game with synced audio and their speakers seem to be of good quality, both build and sound wise. There's no doubt Chromecast is a game-changer, but dissing Sonos without recognizing why it's been the king of the hill for so long comes off as fanboyish. Do I have that right? Can I set up a playlist with content from my local library and Spotify and any other streaming service, or am I stuck casting from whatever app I'm in? On Chromecast, you what? First set up Plex so you can access a local library because that's not a native fucking feature, then you search your library, then you go to the Spotify app and search there, and so on. On Sonos, I search and it shows me results for local libraries and all streaming services. I want to search for a song, I don't know if it's in my music library, on Spotify, or another streaming service. The Connects and Connect:Amps let you power whatever you want, and while expensive, they allow users to get whatever audio experience they want.ĬhromeCast blowing Sonos out of the water in usability? Perhaps you can enlighten us on how superior it is, but let's talk about that. I'm not going to defend the Sonos speakers, they do a decent job, but they are absolutely crazy expensive for what they are.
